NTUA Climate MRV Unit

The NTUA Climate MRV Unit operates within the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), under the Division of Process Analysis, Design and Development (Division II).

Since 2007, the Climate MRV Unit has acted as the official technical advisor to the Ministry on climate change–related issues, with its staff representing Greece in EU working groups and in international climate negotiations under the UNFCCC. The Unit serves as the scientific coordinator of the Greek Greenhouse Gas Inventory System, with core expertise in GHG and air pollutant inventories, climate policy assessment, and the design, implementation, and monitoring of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies and action plans. This expertise includes a strong focus on agriculture, forestry, and land use (LULUCF).

Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) operates since the academic year 1974-1975. The University is currently operating eight Schools and nineteen Departments in four cities of Thrace. DUTH is currently participating in 919 projects (EU-funded programmes – FP7, H2020, JUST Grants, Life actions, Erasmus+, Jean Monnet Chair etc.) and transnational and national projects).

DUTH participates through the Department of Forestry and Management of the Environment and Natural Resources, the staff of which has more than 15 years’ experience in forest management inventories, model development and sustainable management of forest ecosystems, climate change and carbon estimation.

HELLENIC CENTRE FOR MARINE RESEARCH (HCMR)

The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) includes three institutes, two aquariums, and over 400 scientific, technical, and administrative staff. Its Institute of Oceanography conducts multidisciplinary marine and coastal research and has extensive experience in EU and national projects focused on seagrass ecosystems, habitat monitoring, and blue carbon. Through its Seagrass Ecology Lab and GIS & Remote Sensing Unit, HCMR combines field studies, laboratory experiments, spatial analysis, and seafloor mapping to support marine ecosystem research and management.

UNIVERSITY OF PATRAS (UPATRAS)

The Department of Sustainable Agriculture at the University of Patras contributes to the advancement of climate-smart and sustainable agriculture through climate data analysis, greenhouse gas monitoring, and agro-climatic modelling. Its research focuses on understanding climate impacts on agricultural production, assessing future climate risks, and supporting sustainable water and crop management using high-resolution climate scenarios and statistical analysis. The Department also develops approaches for evaluating extreme weather events, estimating agricultural emissions, and improving resilience and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
