Ministry of Environment and Energy

The Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEEN), is the governmental body responsible for the development and implementation of environmental policy in Greece, as well as for the provision of information concerning the state of the environment in Greece in compliance with relevant requirements defined in international conventions, protocols and agreements.

The Division of Climate Change and Air Quality/ General Directorate of Environmental Policy of MEEN is responsible for planning, preparing, and managing the national GHG inventory for Greece, including also the LULUCF sector.

Moreover, the MEEN oversees most matters related to the land use, land use change and forestry sector through its:

• General Directorate of Forests, that has the authority of the administration, exploitation and management of state forests and forested lands, the surveillance of private forests, the validation of management forest surveys, the wood logging, the protection of forests and forested lands, of fauna and flora species and of forestry projects.

• General Directorate of City Planning
• General Directorate of Environmental Policy/ Division of Natural Environment and Biodiversity Management
